Day 6 : Aumont-Aubrac

Today was a long day. It started out well enough with three of us starting out together, but we were soon joined by four older Swiss men.  According to Oriane, the Swiss had been friends from childhood,  and although they lived in different parts of Switzerland, still got together from time to time to enjoy each other's company. They were fast walkers, and because  Oriane and Michel were determined to make it to Aumont Aubrac, they soon broke out on their own and I ended up walking behind them, meeting up with them for a break, and later for lunch in St. Alban de Limanole.

Shortly after leaving St. Alban, however, it started raining. I found myself separated from the others, and found the rest of the journey arduous because of streams of water flowing down the pilgrim path from on high. I am convinced that some of them must have taken the auto-route because I started out before some of them and they arrived before me, without me seeing them pass me by.

I slogged on, however, because the two gîtes where I had considered staying were closed for the season, and I was having difficulty receiving a signal to make phone calls to inquire about availability.  I finally arrived in Aumont Aubrac, fully a day ahead of schedule only to see all my walking companions, including Alix, showing up at La Ferme du Barry.  Dinner was fun, having aligot, a mixture of cheese, potatoes and garlic, made right before us. After dinner, a Mexican woman whom I had previously met in Saugues, started singing, followed by the Swiss gentlemen sounding like a barbershop quartet, and then the French, more reluctantly. The Norwegian guy declined.

Selections for Day 7 on the Pilgrimage

(John 6) 30 So they said to him, "What sign are you going
to give us then, so that we may see it and believe you?
What work are you performing? 31 Our ancestors ate the
manna in the wilderness; as it is written, 'He gave them
bread from heaven to eat.'" 32 Then Jesus said to them,
"Very truly, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you the
bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the
true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is that
which comes down from heaven and gives life to the
world." 34 They said to him, "Sir, give us this bread
always." 35 Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life.
Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever
believes in me will never be thirsty.”

(John 6) 35 …I am the bread of life.

St Alban sur Limagnole--I had lunch in a restaurant across the street

After some difficult climbing, and dodging the water runoff from the rain, after reaching the summit I saw this carved in the wood...

Huts for elves?
The famous Ferme du Barry aligot made by Vincent Boussuge
Oriane, Alix, Michel and two others from Pau?
