Jour 3 - Arzacq Arraziguet

6 "Seek the Lord while he may be found;
    call upon him while he is near;
let the wicked forsake his way,
    and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him,
    and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
    neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
    so are my ways higher than your ways
    and my thoughts than your thoughts."

Isaiah 55: 6 - 9 (ESV)

I thought today's walk included a short-cut I learned about last year while staying at the Maison des Pelerins in Aire-sur-l'Adour.  Apparently that shortcut was YESTERDAY, because I didn't realize that the Ferme de Marsan was AFTER Miramont Sensacq. I had discovered this variant route during my internet research sketched out by the Hospitalet St. Jacques which I decided to follow. That's one problem walking with a large group--it's so easy to get distracted.

 Arzacq-Arraziguet, that town with the unpronounceable name, is situated in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques, Aquitaine region, in the south-west of France at 26 km from Pau, the departmental capital. Once several separate communes, including both Arzacq and Arraziguet, the town is now commonly called "Arzacq" and has about a thousand inhabitants.

It was a short walk today to Pimbo via a somewhat muddy trail, then some mostly asphalt walking to Arzacq. I loved the former which was very welcoming to pilgrim walkers and lingered awhile in the collegiate church there. There had been a wedding the day before and the place was still filled with flowers and strewn with petals.

The walk to Arzacq wasn't long although I saw fewer pilgrims than the previous day. Perhaps it was because I had a head start being at the Ferme de Marsan. I arrived early as the Gîte Communal didn't open until 2:30pm so I opted for a copious lunch at the Café des Sports. I ran into the Alsatian delegation, who were continuing on an additional 12 kilometres. Three of the women whom I stayed with last night will be joining me tonight.
