Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
Aroue
The walk from Navarrenx was 19.5 km but seemed shorter than yesterday's walk probably because there were fewer ups and downs and less rain. There was a surprise shower of about a half hour in duration, plus some sprinkles here and there. There were many people on the route to Aroue, probably because that stage is frequently cited in the guidebooks. It also seemed that most of us were headed to the Ferme Bohoteguia which was actually before the town. I will pass through it tomorrow when I try and find my shortcuts. Hopefully it will be fairly straightforward and the alternated routes are indicated in some way. I'm a little nervous...
Last night's dinner was very interesting. Our host, in typical French fashion, attempted to explain the significance of the name of our gite, L'Alchemist, in relation to the Way of Saint James. Much bewildering French philosophy and word-plays.

I did learn, however, that the local patois, BĂ©arnais, one of several langues d'oc like Occitan, is still spoken in some households. It is not taught in the schools, however, so I'm not sure how long it will remain a living language.
